Early 20th Century garden literature at Coton Manor indicates the Arts and Crafts Movement and its horticultural doyenne, Gertrude Jekyll, were among influences on the design of the garden. As a prolific art and garden historian, and the author of ‘Sissinghurst, The Dream Garden’, Tim will provide a comprehensive and engaging excursion into this formative period in British garden history. A lecturer with a capacity for hugely original insight, he will describe the planting, design and history of the movement’s most iconic creations, Kelmscott and Sissinghurt.
Tim Richardson is a garden/landscape historian and critic, the author of more than 20 books on the subject, including most recently The English Landscape Garden: Dreaming of Arcadia (2024). He was formerly gardens editor at Country Life and a regular columnist in the Daily Telegraph, and is currently art critic at The Idler. His 10-week online course on English landscape history is taught three times a year via Oxford University, and he was course tutor on the MA in landscape history at London University. Tim also founded and directs the Chelsea Fringe Festival.
